The Zen Method of Guitar emphasizes the perfection of technique and artistry via the most direct and expedient manner possible. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced player, my primary aim is to instill the proper musicianship along with measurable progress in a fun, informative and encouraging manner.
The art of playing the classical guitar shares much in common with other arts such as the martial arts, ballet, and even basketball (sports in general). The obvious truth is all require movement of the body. Perfection of movement leads to perfection of playing. This is our ideal. The quality of the student’s awareness is directly correlated to the quality of his artistic performance.
Simply put, the word Zen means mindfulness or heightened awareness. Although my teaching method has little to do with traditional Zen in the formal sense, I borrowed the term because of its emphasis on awareness (body and mind) as a means to achieving a high level of quality in any discipline or art form – in this case, guitar.
